2009 or 1959?

Planting winter rye with the 1950 Ferguson.

"More Abundance" painting/print complete

(Sewing pattern paper, acrylic paint, block printed ink, gel medium.
For sale at
http://www.mamapear.etsy.com .)

This painting was inspired by an appreciation
for my childhood on a sheep farm... and a
response to the pressures to do and have more
rather than appreciating the simple abundance
of life.

It is acrylic paint and block ink on a 2-ply
translucent sewing pattern paper surface,
tacked to the wall (the top is reinforced by
a strip of fabric on the back). Over the course
of 6 years, I have developed a system of
strengthening sewing patter paper (glue &
gel medium) and then painting/printing onto
the surface.

Bees are dying
.
faster than they can replace themselves
and so are my excuses
for losing the map home.
.
The first memory of that place,
and all its nectars
are in a blurry path back to
.
Finnish raspy words buzzing above
the drone of the hive
Grandma Helen is clearly the queen
as we hover around her.
.
In the sticky sun, our daughters hang on
as my mom reads aloud on the throne
the map faintly appears on my face
I look away,

stung.
